New Allergy Representatives
We would like to thank Paul Turner for all his hard work as allergy rep and welcome in his place Prof Graham Roberts and Dr. Maeve Kelleher who will jointly represent allergy on the BPAIIG committee! Prof Roberts was appointed as a senior lecturer in the University of Southampton and an honorary consultant in paediatric allergy and respiratory medicine in 2004. He is Director of the David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre. Professor Roberts is a past chair of the paediatric section of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). He has coordinated the development of EAACI guidelines over the last decade and has organised a number of European research and training events. Professor Roberts runs a translational epidemiological research programme. This includes observational cohorts (eg Isle of Wight and Europrevall birth cohorts) and interventional trials (eg LEAP, MAPS). Maeve Kelleher is a Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Allergy. She holds an honorary consultant post in Imperial College London and also works clinically in the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. She has an MD in paediatric allergy following her work on exploring the relationship between skin barrier damage in early life and the development of eczema and food allergy. Her current research interests are in preventing allergies in children. She was awarded an NIHR Transitional Research Fellowship in 2017 to co-ordinate a world-wide collaboration to explore the role of emollients in preventing food allergy.
